The making of this platform has felt like baking a cake, not a piece of it – and I hope it’s something thats worth tasting.
Welcome to my first post, if you’ve somehow found your way here, thank you. Truly.
If you’re UK rail employee who lives in the strange twilight world of early starts, late finishes, unpredictable breaks and convenience meals, you’re in good company. In 2019, I joined the gut health community: bloated mornings before early commutes, sudden stomach cramps, and the constant cognition of “Will my tummy be happy if i eat this now?” very quickly became a part of normal life. For years I felt like I was tiptoeing around my own digestive system and working unsociable hours doesn’t exactly lend itself to gut‑friendly choices — especially when the only thing open at 3am is a vending machine.
Why start a blog? You may ask. I one day curiously thought – if there are thousands of rail staff in the UK, can I really be the only one also with a diagnosed gut health condition?
Often, it has felt like i’ve been the only one advocating for a cause where gut health has a place in the rail industry in the interests of wellbeing, without the complications of reaching out for advice, products and services that considers the nature of the shift working world. I want this blog to be a place where people like us can feel understood – a space where it shares what works, what doesn’t, the wins (however small), and the honest moments that happen between trains, timetables, and tummy troubles.
If you’re a fellow shift worker trying to navigate a gut health condition, an nutrition specialist, registered charity or retail brand that can help, i’d genuinely love to hear it. Here’s to gut‑friendly simple and convenient choices, gluten‑free brownie points, and finding a community that actually gets it.
