This weekend, Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May, the Birmingham NEC hosted the Allergy and Free From Show – an exhibition dedicated to all things allergen free. From Gluten Free bread, pastries, cakes and Doughnuts (yes Gluten Free Doughnuts!) to organic topical treatments for skin conditions, plus panel discussions and kitchen demos. Special Guests including Olympic Swimmer and Coeliac Disease advocate Becky Adlington and “The Queen of Gluten Free” and Sunday Times Best selling Author, Becky Excell.
Whilst tasting some of the newest products from brands widely known to the Free From aisles of supermarkets such as Warburtons, Nairn’s and Creative Nature, I also took the time to speak to them about the railway industry and how in my honest opinion it could be doing better to help its people make gut healthier choices about the food they eat. I also had the chance to ask Becky Excell for advice as to how she turned a Gluten Free Blog into the blossoming success of several best selling cookbooks, TV show appearances and a growing following, despite the challenge of the Free From industry being labelled as “too niche”.
Whilst it was my second time visiting the show, its is still reassuring to see that there is a safe space for families and adults who have a gut health condition.
